Xeomin vs. Botox: What’s the Difference (and Is One Better Than the Other)?

When it comes to smoothing fine lines, softening frown lines, and preventing wrinkles from forming, wrinkle-relaxing injections like Botox and Xeomin are among the most trusted tools in aesthetic medicine.

But what many patients don’t realize is that Botox isn’t the only neuromodulator on the market- and for some people, it’s not even the most effective option.

So what’s the difference between Botox and Xeomin?... Is one better than the other?... And how do you know which one is right for you? Today, I am breaking it all down for you...

What Are Botox and Xeomin?

Both Botox and Xeomin are FDA-approved neuromodulators.

They work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause expression lines- like frown lines between the brows, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet. Over time, this helps smooth existing lines and prevent deeper wrinkles from forming.

While Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) has been around longer and is more widely recognized by name, Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a newer-generation product that offers a purer formulation.

Both treatments deliver real, noticeable results without changing your natural facial expressions- when injected by a skilled provider, of course. :)

What Makes Xeomin Different from Botox?

The biggest difference? Xeomin is what we call a “naked injectable.” That means it contains only the active ingredient—botulinum toxin A—with no added accessory proteins. Why does that matter?

✔️ Lower risk of resistance over time: Because Xeomin is free of extra proteins, your body is less likely to build up antibodies that make the treatment stop working. It’s often our go-to choice for patients who’ve noticed their Botox results starting to fade.

✔️ Lower risk of allergic reactions: Fewer ingredients mean fewer chances your body will react to them. Xeomin’s clean formulation can be a safer option for those with sensitivities.

Does Xeomin Last Longer Than Botox?

Botox and Xeomin are very similar when it comes to how long results last.

Most patients will see results from either product begin to appear within 3–5 days, with full results showing around 7–10 days after injection. That said, some patients have noted that Xeomin may take a bit longer to kick in.

As for longevity, both typically last 3–4 months, depending on the treatment area, your metabolism, and how expressive your face is. (Yep, some of us are just more animated!)

All of this to say, if you’ve built up resistance to Botox over time, Xeomin may give you longer-lasting results, simply because it’s less likely to trigger antibody formation.

Is Xeomin Better Than Botox?

Whether Xeomin is “better” than Botox depends on your unique anatomy, goals, and treatment history, but there are some key reasons why providers and patients alike are choosing Xeomin :

  • Natural-looking results – Many patients describe Xeomin as providing a softer, more subtle effect than Botox. You’ll still see smoothing and lifting, but without that overly “frozen” look.

  • Great option for first-time users – Xeomin’s purified formula makes it less likely to cause allergic reactions or sensitivities, which is helpful for first-time neuromodulator patients.

  • Ideal for Botox-resistant patients – If you’ve been using Botox for a long time and feel like it’s no longer working, Xeomin can be a powerful alternative. Its purer composition reduces the risk of building up resistance over time.

  • Provider-preferred for a reason – At Flawless Aesthetics, we often reach for Xeomin when we want to deliver a refined, expressive result — especially around the eyes, brow, and forehead.

Both Xeomin and Botox are incredible tools for preventing and treating fine lines and wrinkles, but understanding the differences between them can help you make an empowered, informed choice. At Flawless Aesthetics, we believe in natural-looking results, high standards, and keeping things transparent. Whether you’re a longtime Botox user or considering Xeomin for the first time, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
